The Great Chase, Part #28: Kickstarter & Beyond

I am still traveling around Bar Harbor (right over by the fire station) at the exact moment when the countdown clock finally ticks down:

5 minutes left… 1 minute left… 10, 9, 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2…….1……………………………………(forever)

And then it was done.

The Kickstarter campaign for funding The Great Chase had finally concluded after a magical three weeks of chaos, hype, excitement, and drama! It was such a fun time. Some moments were quite stressful, and there was never a moment when I felt that I could relax without wondering if something was happening in the scene behind the screen. In the end though, we truly did some magnificent work. With only about a 38% chance of a Kickstarter Project successfully funding, we managed to crack 315% our original funding goal for a grand total of:

$15,744

Thrilled about the success I get on the phone with Matt and we begin configuring the plan that will unfold over the course of the next couple weeks. We have an astronomical amount of work to do, so we get started on it immediately. The itinerary starts as this:

Post Kickstarter, Part 1:
1. Finalize project through Kickstarter
2. Setup BackerKit as a Pledge Manager
3. Get Quotes from all potential Manufacturers
4. Determine Which Manufacturer(s) we will use for Final Production
5. Get files organized and prepared for final .png Package
6. Collect & Transfer Funds from Kickstarter to prepare for manufacturer
7. Contact Retail Brick & Mortar Game Stores and seek investing intrest
8. Contact Major Retailers & Amazon for extended sales/marketing outrech
9. Begin planning events where we can showcase product for other sales outreach

At this point in time we do about a week or two where we are busy working getting these steps done before we land on the location we affirm as our official manufacturer. When this is decided we move to the phase of preparing files, but run into a few hiccups, causing an additional art phase in the middle of the plan:

Post Kickstarter, Part 2:
1. Box Design is going to change in dimensions from 3.5″x5.5″x1″ to 4″x6″x1.75″
2. File Format for all images is going to be .jpeg, not .png, must reformat whole folder.
3. Box Design gets changed again to be 4″x6″x1.3″ because it doesn’t fit in metal case
4. An extra Poker Size Card is designed to advertise for Matt’s Content
5. An extra Poker Size Card is designed to advertise upcoming Librarium Content
6. Other logos, bar codes, and manufacturing locations need to be added to box

I also try to squeeze in some important updates around the website, as I am always worried that things won’t be ready as we need them to be! One key improvement that I add onto the website is a Collaborators page. On here I make sure to give a special thanks to each and every person who was involved in the Funding /Creation of the game. These people are the reason why this game exists, and I am so happy to have them as the origin story for our journey!

22nd of August, 2021
Nearly one month later, as all of these parts fall into place, we finally get finished with the entirety of what we must do on our end (Contract Signed), and we ship our baby off to China for final production. They tell us that we are going to receive a prototype package from them as of the first week of September, and then it will be about 45 days of production once we have approved of the prototype. From there, we would import the content over seas, and distribute, Ideally getting the game out in the mail by about mid-late November (not quite the October we had promised, but not too bad either on the delays).
