~The Great Chase~
:: Reviews ::
Fun, cooperative puzzle!
The Great Chase is a cooperative game for 1-6 people where players investigate air crashes happening all over the world. Game difficulty is heavily impacted on how many characters you choose to play with: anywhere from 3-6. The more characters you use the easier it is to get a high score.
The design of the cards and iconography is clear and enough information is given on the cards that we didn’t have to keep consulting the rulebook once we began playing. We enjoyed the design of the map cards and loved all the Easter eggs on the card backs! The illustrations of all the aircraft in the game are wonderful!
We had a lot of fun playing The Great Chase. The feel of the gameplay reminds us of Pandemic, which is a favourite at our table. An added bonus is that the game fits in a nice small box making it a great choice for travel!
The game is based on the Miranda Chase series of books by M.L. Buchman. I haven’t read the books and that didn’t impact my enjoyment of the game at all. Obviously fans of the series would love it even more!
Rob and I give The Great Chase 3 out of 4 Meeples.
A Game for all types of gamers!
In The Great Chase you are working together as a team of air-craft investigators to solve aeronautic crashes and resolve diplomatic emergencies. You are tasked with completing 10 missions in 10 turns by controlling each character’s movement and abilities. Each character has different abilities so working together is crucial.
I’m always a sucker for anything that has some asymmetry. I also like that there are different mission cards to tailor your experience based on how difficult you want the game to be. It’s super approachable for newer gamers with enough of a challenge for more experienced folks. I haven’t read any of the novels so you don’t need to be familiar with them to enjoy the game. There is a bit of a luck element with dice rolling but that just makes everything more exciting, to me.
The Great Chase has something for all types of gamers- a solo mode, varying difficulty levels, and is a great entryway for cooperative games. The artwork is stunning and components are great.
Clever little co-op strategy game!
The Great Chase is compact in size, time, and mental exertion, ideal for week nights and traveling. The map art is stunning, which is hard to pull off with the full spectrum primary color scheme it has going on! We think this game scratches a specific itch in the game world: quick, accessible, gateway level cooperative strategy. It’s a great game to pull out with newbie gamers, or for gameschooling with kids who are practicing mental math, risk assessment, efficiency, consensus, and resilience/plan adjustments.
The game has multiple character combinations and difficulties to set it at, and players work together to send investigators bopping back and forth across 12 timezones “solving” aircraft crashes. Each investigator has different skills and stats to deal with accidents cropping up- think Pandemic but with a linear map and smaller scale/more rapid fire. Interesting strategizing comes in: integrating the odd conditions on mission cards with the skills of each investigator to make your round as efficient and effective as possible at solving flights. The game could suffer from alpha player dominance depending on the group. However, that is why it also makes a great solo game!
Overall we are impressed by the clever merging of theme and quick strategic co-op mechanics… playing felt zen-puzzle like. For us, it was too easy, but we’re excited to play with our 7 year old! We think fans of the novel series this game is based on will probably enjoy this game at an even deeper level than we were able.
The Great Chase will fill a very relevant spot on the light weight board game shelf for cooperative/solo strategy! And if you want to connect with your kids before bedtime wearing their brains out with some logic gymnastics, this may be an excellent and easy $20 to spend.
The game is surprisingly well balanced, It paced the challenges well and feels like it had been playtested quite a bit.
Fits in my pocket and packed full of replay-ability!
Have you ever seen yourself being part of an air-crash investigation team, playing as a major character from a best selling book series. Of course you have, but if you haven’t buckle up and set your sites on the horizons for The Great Chase! This is a worker placement style game that has hints of Pandemic like movement but loads of depth behind each mission. Based from the books series written by M. L. Buchman, you take on the role of an investigator trying to
solve the mysteries of planes that have gone down.
Final Thoughts:
I love the size of this game. It’s small enough to go in my pocket and packed full of replay-ability. The characters are cool because if you want to learn more about them you can, by reading the books they come to life in. The pictures and information given about each plane on the flight deck is really cool for those of us who love learning facts. Overall really solid game.
Don’t fall behind!
The Great Chase is cooperative in nature and scales in difficulty on multiple fronts. Each of the three scenarios (game modes) add to the complexity and difficulty to constantly up the ante and challenge players. The other way to adjust the difficulty is in the number of characters you use. Different combinations with varying stats add to re-playability.
Your team must decide which character takes on each crisis based on the skills shown on the character cards. 10 mission cards make up each scenario. If you don’t complete one, the next mission card comes anyway and your problems compound. Use your characters and skill combinations wisely!
Eye-catching cards with flavor text adds immersion that will draw in fans of the novels who may not be experienced heavy gamers. A solid game for the fans of the novels *and* for any gamer that enjoys international intrigue-themed games with problem solving and adjustable difficulty.
Fully funded on day 1 of their campaign!
Here we have a sneak peek of The Great Chase from Librarium Games. The Great Chase is a little cooperative game in which players choose characters from the Miranda Chase novels to investigate aircraft crashes around the world. These crashes could either be accidents or ambushes and the crew will have to work together to investigate them to determine their cause.
The playing field is composed of cards representing the time zones across the world and it’s kinda cool to see the map laid out from end to end. Each character has different traits that will help them in their quest (think special actions from Pandemic or Forbidden Island). While this is all going on, you’ll also help to keep the peace by diffusing diplomatic emergencies.
All in all, it’s a fun co-op game of racing against the clock to solve ten missions in ten turns, and if you like other co-op games, then you’ll definitely want to give this one a try!
